The bush fires at the end of 2019 rendered the air quality so bad that staying inside was highly encouraged, and with the thick smoke outside, the house became a pocket of air, submerged in a thick red blanket. The sun appeared so red through the haze that it became hard to believe one was even on earth anymore. Any place where the sun got in, it was so intense that the red slivers of light could be felt on the skin after a few seconds. As far as a fun holiday season goes, December 2019 was completely alien. Of course it wasn't quite this eye-bleed red, but it was certainly suffocating enough that the exaggeration does it justice.
